I was tasked with creating the brand image for the band which included an identity and artwork for their first single. After meeting with the lead singer of the band 'Peter Shreeves' and Dave Thorogood (Sax & Bass) I tried to get an insight into what the band were about, ther musical influences and what they hoped to achieve with a new brand identity. It became apparent after speaking with the guys that they were a group of cheeky, fun loving 'skallywags'. The word 'cheeky' was repeatedly used in the conversation which sparked the main idea for their marque - and what's cheekier than a cheeky monkey sticking its tongue out? The 'cheeky monkey' marque perfectly summarises the fun side of the band whilst the pork pie hat so commonly associated with Ska music also helps to show the bands musical background. The marque serves to work as a memorable, stand alone identifier.

A bespoke, hand cut logotype was created to sit alongside the marque. Influenced by type from movie poster such as Alfie, The Shining and Death Proof - each character was hand drawn, cut then scanned to achieve a natural look. The colour palette designated for the Kubricks is a nod to the retro artwork of Saul Bass.
